Everything I teach in the field

Live online workshops for wildlife photographers who can’t always join me on a workshop. One topic per session, taught live on Zoom, recorded, and yours to watch again on demand.

Two ways to learn with me

In Focus and the Inner Circle

In Focus is the teaching. The Inner Circle is where the learning continues after the session ends, with feedback on your own images and a community that cares about the same things you do. Join the Inner Circle and you get both.

Live online workshops

Field & Frame In Focus

Not every year lines up with a trip to the Pantanal or the Lamar Valley. That doesn’t mean the work stops. The skills that make those trips pay off can be built from home: reading low light, knowing where you can go on public land, shaping a body of work that’s unmistakably yours, and finding a single frame in an archive of thousands.

After the online workshops I taught this past year, you made it clear that you wanted more. Field & Frame In Focus is my answer, with no gatekeeping: one skill at a time, ninety focused minutes, and room for your questions at the end.

These aren’t recycled YouTube tips, and they aren’t webinars that take you partway there and then sell you the rest. Every session draws on the same field-tested teaching I bring to my workshops: education that is grounded in practical, actionable information that helps wildlife photographers make the most of their time in the field and create their best images.

A private, members-only community

The Inner Circle

The Inner Circle grew out of my 2025 Brazil workshop, when the photographers in the group wanted a place to keep sharing images after the trip. It’s a private community on Circle, not a Facebook group: no algorithm, no ads, and no endless scroll of thumbs-up.

Members bring the images they’re struggling with, the images they’re proud of, ask for feedback when needed, and get honest, specific, and constructive answers. Every week there’s an image feedback thread, and every quarter, I review member images live. In between, there are live Q&As and bonus sessions, and members vote on what In Focus covers next.

First up for members, February 24: Public Land Access: Know Where You Stand. How to know who manages the ground under your tripod, what the rules are there, and how to build your own map of public land access before you ever leave the vehicle. It’s for Inner Circle members only, and it won’t be sold as a single session.

Every Inner Circle membership includes every In Focus session, live and on replay, plus members-only bonus sessions, for as long as you’re a member.

How it works

Live on Zoom at 6:30 pm Eastern. About 90 minutes, including Q&A.

Can’t make it live? Every session is recorded, and the replay comes to you after it airs.

Choose how you join. Pick one session, the full series, or the series with a year in the Inner Circle.

Finding Your Visual Voice

Build the visual vocabulary behind your frames on purpose, so your work starts looking unmistakably like yours.

Read the full description

Why does one image stop people in their tracks, while another of the exact same subject, taken from the exact same spot, barely gets a second glance? It's not luck. It's not gear. And it's not the way the photo was processed.

It's the why behind the frame — and almost nobody takes the time to find it.

Every photograph you make is the sum of a thousand small decisions: what to include, what to leave out, where to stand, what to wait for. Stack those decisions across a whole body of work and they stop being individual choices. They become your visual vocabulary. And your visual vocabulary becomes your voice.

This session is about building that vocabulary on purpose, instead of waiting around for one lucky frame, and instead of reverse-engineering whatever photo racked up the most likes last week. You'll walk away with a way of thinking about your own decisions — behind the camera and in the edit — that compounds over every shoot you do after this one, not just the next one.

One skill, 90 minutes, and your work starts looking unmistakably like yours.

The Photo Findability Fix

Stop organizing your catalog like a filing cabinet and start building it like a search engine, with keywording and metadata habits that hold up at any size.

Read the full description

Nobody teaches you this part. You learn how to shoot, how to expose, how to edit — and then you're left to figure out, on your own, how to actually find anything again once your catalog hits the thousands or tens of thousands of photos.

Date-based organization works fine when you have a few thousand images. It falls apart the moment your archive grows up. You don't remember when you took a photo. You remember what it was: a fox on a frozen river, your grandkid's first steps, that overlook in Yellowstone you've shot four different years. None of that lines up with a folder named by date, and none of it should have to.

Stop organizing your catalog like a filing cabinet and start building it like a search engine. My archive holds more than 250,000 images, and I can find any one of them — a specific animal, a specific location, a specific year — with something close to a Google search. Not because I have a perfect memory. Because the system does the remembering for me.

There's no single right structure that works for every photographer, and I'm not going to pretend there is. But there are foundational habits — keywording, metadata, a logic that holds up whether your catalog is all wildlife or a mix of wildlife, family, and everything in between — that make any archive findable.

This session is that foundation. Build it once, and every photo you've ever taken stays reachable instead of lost.

Public Land Access: Know Where You Stand

Who manages the ground under your tripod, what the rules are there, and how to build your own working map of public land access before you leave the vehicle.

Read the full description

You found the spot. Perfect light, perfect angle, animal doing exactly what you hoped it would do.

And then a truck pulls up and someone tells you to leave. Maybe they're right. Maybe they're not. Either way, you didn't know, and now you're packing up instead of photographing.

Public land access isn't common sense. It's a patchwork of federal agencies, state rules, easements, and private inholdings that all look identical from where you're standing with a camera. BLM land plays by different rules than national forest. National forest plays by different rules than a wildlife refuge. And "public" doesn't always mean "open" — some of it's seasonal, some of it's permit-only, some of it's closed to protect exactly the wildlife you're there to photograph.

This session breaks down the actual tools I use to “pre-scout” my public land locations and figure out my options before I even hit the road: how to identify who owns and manages the ground you're standing on, how to read the access rules for each land type, and how to build your own working map of public land access so you're not guessing every time you cross a state line.

No more losing time and effort to rules you didn't know existed. And I’ll walk you through how I approach private landowners for permission to photograph on their property, too.

One skill, 90 minutes, and a whole roster of tools to empower you to enjoy yourself on land where you belong.

Questions

What if I can't make it live?

Every session is recorded. Single-session and series buyers get a replay link delivered to their inbox; Inner Circle members watch in the In Focus Library.

How long can I watch the replay?

Single session: one year from the live date.
Full series: one year after each session airs.
Inner Circle: on-demand replays of every session from every year, for as long as your membership is active.

What's the difference between the series and the Inner Circle option?

The series gets you the four sessions. The Inner Circle gives you the entire series and adds the community, the weekly and quarterly image feedback, live Q&As, bonus In Focus sessions, a say in what topics are covered, and the full library going forward.

Can I upgrade later?

Yes, within 14 days, and you only pay the difference in price.
Full series: upgrade to Series + Inner Circle within 14 days after the first session airs.
Single session: upgrade to the Full Series or to Series + Inner Circle within 14 days after that session airs.
Email me at hello@fieldandframeworkshops.com and I’ll send your upgrade link.

What's your refund policy?

Because In Focus sessions are live and digital, all sales are final and I don’t offer refunds. If you can’t make a session live, the replay is yours to watch. In the unlikely event I need to move a session, your seat and your replay move with it. Inner Circle memberships can be canceled anytime to stop the next year’s renewal; the current year isn’t refunded.
